About This Event

How do Americans from different walks of life view US foreign policy? Are Black, Hispanic, and Asian Americans less likely to want the US to be actively involved in the world compared to white Americans? Do younger Americans think differently about US policy toward Ukraine and Israel than older Americans? A new report from the Chicago Council and New America offers some insight, examining how race and age play into public opinion on global issues. Join us as we discuss the results of our survey and explore how Americans of diverse ages and backgrounds think about the US role in the world ahead of the 2024 election.

Fellow, American Statecraft Program, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Christopher Shell is a fellow in the American Statecraft Program at the Carnegie Endowment, where he leads a project that examines the impact of US foreign policy on Black Americans since the end of the Cold War.

Candace Rondeaux

Senior Director, Future Frontlines and Planetary Politics, New America

Candace Rondeaux is the senior director for New America’s Future Frontlines program on next generation security issues, as well as the Planetary Politics initiative, which seeks solutions to the challenges posed by digitization and decarbonization.

Research Assistant, Public Opinion and US Foreign Policy

Lama El Baz joined the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in 2023 as a research assistant for the public opinion and US foreign policy team within the Lester Crown Center. She is passionate about public opinion research, data analytics, and the regional affairs of the Middle East and North Africa.

Kelwin Harris

Chief Civic Engagement Officer, Deputy Assessor, Cook County Assessor's Office

At the Cook County Assessor's Office, Kelwin Harris leads public participation and stakeholder outreach for nearly two million property owners. Previously, he was a senior outreach planner with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) where he led outreach for Chicago's official regional plan, ON TO 2050, and helped communities find more equitable solutions to improve quality of life.
