Paula Maia is a Ph.D. Candidate in Anthropology at Northwestern University. Her research focuses on food (in)security and the political ecology of the gut microbiome. She uses mixed methods approaches to assess how global economic forces, such as tourism, affect food (in)security and subsequently impact biology and health through diet and the gut microbiome.
