Lessons from Finland's Criminal Justice System
About This Event
Finland consistently ranks high on indexes for happiness, gender equality, rule of law, and socioeconomic stability. It also has one of the lowest incarceration and recidivism rates in the world, thanks in part to a system of open prisons. As the movement for criminal justice reform in the United States gathers momentum, what can Chicago learn from the Nordic approach to incarceration and social policy more broadly?
Following the public broadcast, Council members have access to interact in an off-the-record setting with WBEZ’s Natalie Moore, virtually or in person, as she describes her recent fact-finding visit to Finland.
Natalie Moore’s reporting from Finland was made possible by a grant from the Richard C. Longworth Media Fellowship Program, funded by The Clinton Family Fund and supported by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Pulitzer Center.
Note
This is a hybrid event, meaning Council members are able to attend in person in our conference center but there will be virtual elements. Space is limited. Not a member and want to participate in person? Join now.
