About Valeria G. Castelli
Valeria G. Castelli joined the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in 2023 as a research associate for the Center on Global Cities. In this role, she conducts research for the Center's projects on city-to-city diplomacy, Chicago's global engagement, urbanism and democracy, and equitable climate action. She also writes about cities and migration, climate migration, and storytelling for social impact. Prior to joining the Council, Castelli worked in academia for more than fifteen years as a researcher and instructor, including at New York University, Harvard University, and The New School. Her work has appeared in Studies in Documentary Film, The Italianist, Gender/Sexuality/Italy, Public Seminar, and Flash Art. Castelli holds a PhD in Italian studies from New York University, an MSc in analysis, prevention, and combat of organized crime and corruption from the University of Pisa, and an MA in Italian studies from University College London.
