Lord King was appointed a life peer for his contributions to public service and entered the UK House of Lords as a crossbencher in July 2013, and was made a Knight of the Garter in 2014. He served as governor of the Bank of England from 2003-2013, during a 22 year career with the institution, which also included holding the positions of deputy governor, chief economist and executive director.
