Douglas Lute and Nicholas Burns on NATO's Crisis

Two former US ambassadors to NATO join Deep Dish to explain why NATO is currently facing a critical situation and what can be done about it.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is facing "the most severe crisis in the security environment in Europe since the end of the Cold War and perhaps ever," warn Douglas Lute and Nicholas Burns. The two former US ambassadors to NATO recently joined the Council's Brian Hanson on Deep Dish to explain why and what can be done about it.

A career army officer, Lute retired from active duty as a lieutenant general after 35 years of service. In addition to serving as US Ambassador to NATO, Lute was also Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor to coordinate the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and ultimately spent a total of six years in the White House.
